We've made good progress. We have been measuring, reducing and reporting on our operational carbon footprint since 2006, been carbon neutral since 2020 and currently offset 110% of our carbon footprint. However, we want to challenge ourselves to move at the speed needed to achieve our climate ambitions. That’s why our initial target is 5 years earlier than the latest climate science deems necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.

We’ve also moved quickly in response to the changing landscape brought by the pandemic, which has seen most of our colleagues working from home, and have incorporated these emissions into our reporting and targets.

Our operational commitments

  • We will achieve a 50% reduction in Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2025 from a 2018 baseline year. This means a 60% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions primarily from energy use in our offices, and 50% reduction in Scope 3 emissions primarily from business travel and working from home emissions.
  • The nature of work has changed and working from home more is likely to be a lasting feature. While we’ve worked hard to make our offices more efficient, people’s homes, generally, are less so. We have partnered with Pawprint (an eco app) to develop our understanding of these emissions and start to find ways to reduce them.
  • As we work to reduce the emissions of our business, we also empower our colleagues to take individual action. This includes making the Pawprint app available to all colleagues so they can understand and reduce their own carbon footprint, and through our employee benefits scheme we provide the option for electric car leasing.
  • Our priority is to reduce emissions where we can, then we offset what remains (including working from home emissions) by purchasing carbon credits through our partnership with ClimateCare. This supports accredited projects that help people to engage with and protect nature, and to support habitat and wildlife restoration.

Our supply chain commitments

It’s important to us that we work with suppliers who are also committed to net zero. We will:

  • Engage with our top suppliers – those who equate to 50% of our spend – and ask that they set out their net zero alignment plans by 2025.
