Platinum score highlights investment, advocacy programs in critical focus area for colleague health

May 5, 2022—PHILADELPHIA—abrdn, a  leading global asset manager, today is extremely proud to announce its successful completion of the Bell Seal Certification from Mental Health America (MHA), the Virginia-based national nonprofit dedicated to workplace mental health advocacy in the United States.

With this designation, abrdn joins a community of more than 50 leading US-based organizations championing mental health and is the first independent asset manager to do so, placing among a mix of nationally-recognized organizations across healthcare, insurance, media and technology, financial services and other sectors.

The nomination program, which launched in 2019, continues to grow as workplace mental health ascends in priority amid the stresses and challenges of the pandemic, and as a new generation of talent has spotlighted this area as a critical point of emphasis in their careers. To attain the Bell Seal, MHA conducts an extensive, in-depth examination of workplace programs with analysis in four core areas—Supportive Workplace Culture, Mental Health Benefits, Caring Beyond Compliance, and Holistic Wellness—before rendering an overall result and certification.

The final abrdn result produced a Platinum score of 98 out of 100, detailing among other accomplishments the company’s pursuit of a new Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with enhanced mental health benefits, the dedicated work of abrdn’s Capability colleague network in bringing equal visibility to both mental and physical health strategies, and mental health themes bridged among the broader coterie of abrdn Employee Resource Groups and their programs, including the company’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

The certification drive was led in abrdn’s Philadelphia office by Capability network members Lucia Sitar, abrdn Head of Product Management & Governance Americas, and HR Payroll Specialist Carrie Ellis.

“At abrdn, we are uniquely passionate about our team’s well-being and have long recognized the vital importance and role of mental health advocacy, resources and support in our actions,” said Jim O’Connor, Head of the Americas at abrdn. “These priorities have rightly grown in stature and visibility for our talent, business and clients, and abrdn has committed to create space to educate, engage, make thoughtful decisions and invest in mental health as a central part of our colleague experience. Living these values, today we have a combination of supportive features, empowered leadership among our teams, and a broader culture around mental health that is novel, caring, connected, and most importantly, impactful. We are incredibly humbled by the outcome and proud to join the community of Bell Seal organizations in what we expect will be a fruitful and growing relationship with MHA going forward.”
