We have recently made further progress with our plans to expand our business in Japan. We have completed the regulatory registrations to broaden our investment offerings to meet the needs of a wider range of Japanese investors, and we’ve appointed our first Head of Direct Real Estate for Japan.

Aberdeen Standard Investments recently acquired Type I and Type II Financial Instruments business licenses in Japan, which allow us to offer offshore products directly to Japanese professional investors. This includes public and private market funds across different asset classes.

In July we appointed Hidetoshi Ono to lead Aberdeen Standard Investments’ direct real estate investments in Japan. Hidetoshi brings over 25 years of real estate investment and management experience from Japanese and multinational organisations. He joins from Manulife, where he was Managing Director, Japan Real Estate.

Together with the acquisition of Orion Partners in February this year, these developments strengthen our real estate investment capability in Japan and help us to address the rising demand for alternative investments.
