René Buehlmann

CEO, Investments

René joined abrdn as CEO of Asia Pacific in March 2021. Appointed as sole CEO of Investments in May 2023, René is responsible for leading and delivering the global strategy of our Investments business.

Before joining abrdn, René spent 29 years at UBS. Between 2014 and 2019 he was Head of Asset Management for Asia Pacific and part of the regional UBS Group Executive Committee. During this time, he was responsible for managing and developing the business across segments and distribution channels, as well as ensuring engagement with clients, regulators, industry bodies and key stakeholders. In addition, he managed and developed the global Wholesale business strategy.

Prior to his appointment as Head of Asset Management, René held several leadership roles for Asia Pacific, including Global Head of Investment Funds, Head of Investment Products, and Head of Banking Products for the region. Before moving to Asia, René spent four years in New York as Head of Lending Products for the Americas, before moving to Zurich to assume responsibility for UBS Wealth Management's lending products globally.
