Jonathan joined Aberdeen Asset Management in 2005 as a graduate on the US Equities team. He has 17 years investment experience working on the US as well as UK and European investment teams at abrdn, most recently as manager on the European Sustainable Equity Fund. Jonathan graduated from the University of Cape Town with a BBusSci (Hons) in Finance and Economics. He is a CFA Charterholder and holds the Investment Management Certificate.

Emmanuel joined the company in 2012 and is an Investment Manager in the Central Investment Team. Working on the day-to-day management of discretionary multi-asset portfolios, Emmanuel’s sectors of focus cover European Equities, Infrastructure and Alternative investments. Emmanuel graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics, is a CFA Charterholder, a CAIA Charterholder as well as holding the Investment Management Certificate.

Dexter Baum

Client Portfolio Manager

Dexter joined abrdn in 2016. As a Charities Portfolio Manager, he is responsible for investing portfolios for charities, philanthropic donors and families. Dexter specialises in ethical investing, and leads the team on environmentally focussed investment solutions. He has developed techniques for reporting and measuring the carbon footprint of investment portfolios, bringing together the extensive internal and external resources available.

Dexter is a committee member of the early careers network at abrdn, delivering financial education to schools. He graduated from the University of Nottingham with a first class degree in Industrial Economics and is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of the UK.

Kevin joined the company in March 2019 as a Senior Client Portfolio Manager after 6.5 years with Rowan Dartington where he was Head of Bristol Discretionary and was responsible for directly managing portfolios totalling £250m and their AIM BPR portfolios. Prior to this Kevin worked at Lloyds Private Banking for over 27 years during which time he undertook a number of roles including financial planning, portfolio management before eventually moving into the High Net Worth offer for clients with over £2m of investible assets. He is a Fellow of both the CISI and Personal Financial Society. Originally born in Plymouth he moved to Bristol in 1990.

Gair Brisbane has over 20 years’ experience in the charity sector as a volunteer, trustee, Executive Director. Gair moved into investment management in 2011 to specialise in charity investments and joined the company in 2016. Gair is a graduate of Aberdeen University, a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing. Gair maintains a particular interest in conservation and veteran welfare and is a former trustee of the John Muir Trust and Officer’s Association Scotland.

Ruben joined the company in 2020 through the graduate training programme and became a member of the Discretionary Investment Team in 2022 as a Trainee Investment Manager. He has company research and analysis responsibility to support idea generation and portfolio construction decision making, and more broadly supports the team’s management of a range of equity and multi-asset funds and strategies. He holds an MSc in Management from the University of Bristol, a BA in Philosophy with English, and is a candidate for the CFA programme.

Jay joined the company in 2022 from GAM Investments, where he spent 8 years, latterly as a Client Relationship Manager, responsible for managing the investments of private clients, trusts and charities. Prior to this, he spent 7 years in institutional client management roles at Gartmore Investment Management and NewSmith Capital Partners. Jay is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI), he is also a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC). He has 15 years of industry experience.

Carol joined following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013 and manages portfolios for private clients, charities, trusts and pensions. She joined Newton in 2007 after 19 years at Aegon Asset Management where she specialised in international equities and managed institutional and retail portfolios as well as leading a team of investment analysts. Carol has over 30 years of investment experience, holds the Stock Exchange's Securities Industry Diploma, is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds a MA (Hons) degree in Economics and French from Glasgow University.

Based in Jersey, Tim is an Executive Director and Head of Operations and Oversight for the discretionary investment management from abrdn, international business. He brings 40 years' experience in Corporate Banking, Investment and Fund Management to the team.

Prior to his current position and earlier Operations Director role with APWM, he held senior positions with lnsinger de Beaufort International Limited  (formerly Matheson Investment International Limited) and with Citibank in Jersey and Dublin.

Tim is a non-executive director of the Aberdeen Standard Capital Offshore Strategy Fund (ASCOSF ).

Married with one daughter, outside of work Tim enjoys mountain biking, watching motor sport, and spending time with his family's rescued Shetland ponies and other pets of which they have many.

Andy is the Chief Operating Officer for Personal Wealth and is accountable for all Operations, Technology, Change, Business Continuity and Workplace across our wider Personal business. He provides leadership and strategic direction in these key areas and was previously Head of Operations, Technology and Change and before that Head of Change within the Discretionary business. Andy joined our discretionary business in April 2018.

Andy has over 20 years of Industry experience and previously worked for Standard Life Investments for three years as a Programme Director running a number of strategic projects and before that AEGON UK for 16 years in a variety of Operations and Change roles.

Andy holds an honours degree from Aberdeen University in Geography and Geology and holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC).

David is Managing Director - Head of Discretionary, abrdn, and has been a Director of the Discretionary business since he joined from Lloyds Banking Group in 2010. Prior to taking on responsibility for the overall Discretionary business in May 2022, he led the Client Management, Client Servicing and Business Development teams within the business.

Before joining the abrdn Group (formerly Standard Life Aberdeen) at Lloyds David was Director of the Bank's ultra high net worth private client business, and a member of the Executive Management committee of Lloyds Private Banking for over five years. Throughout his career David has built a broad range of experience in finance and investment related roles, and specifically held business leadership roles within private banking and discretionary fund management for the last 23 years.

Over this time he has led investment and relationship teams serving high net worth clients, always with the aim of ensuring a clear focus on the needs of the client remains uppermost.

He holds the ACIB (Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers) qualification, and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, and holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Managerial and Administrative Studies from Aston University.

Lisa joined following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013. She manages a team of 50 client portfolio managers assistants and client team administrators across all six office locations and is responsible for all aspects of client administration.

Lisa joined Newton in 1996 and worked in a number of roles including the Client Reporting and Client Static Data team, having also previously worked at Coutts and Co. private bank. She has over 25 years of operational industry experience and holds the Investment Management Certificate.

Gill moved to abrdn following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013 and manages portfolios for charities, trusts and private clients. Gill joined Newton in 2012 from Merrill Lynch, where she had responsibility for UK charity and other portfolios. Before joining the City, Gill worked as a goldsmith, having studied 3-dimensional design crafts at the Kent Institute of Art and Design.

Gill has over 21 years of investment experience, is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments, holds the Investment Management Certificate, the Private Client Investment and Management Certificate and the Financial Planning Certificate and the Certificate in ESG Investing.

Marco joined in 2018 and has over 13 years of investment management experience. Marco started his career in Private Equity as a research analyst before joining the Relx Pension Fund as an Assistant Fund Manager covering UK equities for over seven years. Marco subsequently spent four years+ co-managing the $3bn European equity portfolio for the South Korean Sovereign Wealth Fund (KIC), helping establish its presence in London and was one of its first local hires. Marco is a CFA Charterholder, a member of the CFA Society of the UK and the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments and graduated from the University of Southampton with a BSC in Economics and Management Science.

He is responsible for the Private Client Growth Model, which provides leadership on portfolio construction, stock selection and timing for clients seeking to achieve long-term capital growth through direct investment and also the lead manager of the Falcon Fund.

He joined Newton in 1992 and has over 28 years of investment experience. John is an Associate of the CFA Society of the UK, holds the ASIP designation, is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments and graduated from St Andrews University with a Masters in Economics.

Laurence leads the charity and not-for-profit offering from abrdn, managing portfolios for charities, trusts and private family groups. Prior to joining the business in 2013, Laurence was with Barclays Wealth & Investment Management where he worked across investment teams in London and Singapore.

A graduate of Durham University, Laurence is a CFA Charterholder and holds both the Investment Management Certificate and the Certificate in ESG Investing. He is an active member and ambassador of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of the UK. In 2020, Laurence was also named in the Private Asset Management Awards, Top 40 Under 40.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Laurence is a Trustee and Chair of the Investment Committee for a grant-making charity.

Alastair joined the company in 2010, he has been helping clients manage their money since 1994 and has over 15 years of investment management experience.

Based in our Birmingham office, he is responsible for managing portfolios for private clients, pensions and trustees. Prior to this Alastair worked for 16 years at Lloyds Private Banking during which time he undertook a number of roles including financial planning & compliance management before eventually managing portfolios in 2004 for high and ultra-high net worth private clients, charities, trusts and pensions on both a discretionary and non-discretionary basis.

Alastair holds the Investment Advice Diploma (Securities) and the Certificate in Financial Planning. He is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

Having previously worked for Redmayne Bentley, and Tilney Investment Management, Lauren has been managing portfolios for clients for many years, and also includes time on the trading floor, at a former employer, amongst her experience. She has a real passion for financial markets, and enjoys bringing this to the benefit of her clients.

In her spare time Lauren enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as long walks with her dog, across her home county of Yorkshire. Lauren is also a trustee of Leeds Hospitals Charity and sits on their Finance & Performance and Audit & Risk Committees.

Matthew joined abrdn in 2015 and has 25 years of investment experience. He leads our international teams across both London and Jersey and is on the abrdn discretionary business executive committee. Matthew started his career managing private client portfolios and was the lead fund manager for a London Stock Exchange listed investment trust. Matthew subsequently spent over twelve years managing £500m+ equity portfolios for the final salary pension schemes of FTSE 100 and CAC 40 companies. Matthew now manages portfolios for private individuals, charities, corporates and trusts.

Matthew is an Associate of the CFA Society of the UK, holds the ASIP designation and graduated from the University of Exeter with a Masters in Finance & Investment.

Charity Governance Specialist

Julie is our Charity Governance Specialist and joined in 2015. With over 20 years of experience across law, finance and charity governance, her career has spanned several fields. After graduating with a First in Law from the University of Edinburgh and qualifying as a lawyer, Julie specialised in trusts and private client work, including philanthropy and the creation and management of charities. As the Charity Governance Specialist at abrdn, Julie is a sounding board for our charity clients on various governance and policy matters. In particular, Julie provides practical help to charity clients relating to their investment policy statement and the way charities reflect their purposes in their investment policy. She has particular expertise in this area, having co-authored the Scottish Charity Regulator’s investment guidance in 2018.

Aside from her role at abrdn, Julie’s cross-sector activities extend to the public and academic spheres. In 2019, she was asked by the Scottish Government to Chair the Review of Governance of NHS Endowment Funds. Julie is also a board member of SEPA, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, and is a Visiting Professor in Governance and Innovation at Edinburgh Napier University.

Andrew manages investment portfolios for private clients, trustees, family offices and charities. Andrew brings over 30 years of investment knowledge and experience to our international client base, including being a member of various boards and investment committees of regulated organisations.

Prior to his current position and earlier Investment Manager role with APWM, he was previously employed at Asset Risk Consultants, Cenkos (CI), Kleinwort Benson and Merrill Lynch Asset Management.

Andrew is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and a Chartered Wealth Manager. He is a holder of the Securities & Investment - Private Client Investment Advice & Management Certificate (PCIAM), the Securities & Investment - Investment Advice Diploma (IAD) and the Investment Management Certificate (IMC).

Outside of work, Andrew is a committee member for Jersey Cancer Relief, a local charity offering financial assistance to local people affected by cancer. He has three teenage children, is a keen runner and enjoys travelling and sporting challenges such as climbing Kilimanjaro and the 3 Peaks Challenge.

Aaron originally moved to Birmingham from the Lake District in 2012 to attend the University of Birmingham, where he obtained a BSc in Mathematics.

Cameron joined abrdn in 2022, having spent the previous 6 years at another global investment manager. Cameron manages investment portfolios for charities, trusts and private clients. An Investment and Finance master’s graduate of Strathclyde Business School, Cameron also holds the Investment Management Certificate and the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing.

Cameron maintains a particular interest in youth development, sitting on the finance committee of Youth Scotland and through his work as an investment mentor for the Future Asset initiative.

Elizabeth Pindar joined the company in 2020 from local investment management firm Redmayne Bentley based in Leeds. Elizabeth graduated with an honours degree in Economics from the University of Newcastle which naturally led to a career in financial services. At Redmayne Bentley her time was spent working with the team managing client portfolios, including portfolio construction, dealing and suitability. She also sat on various investment committees feeding into strategic asset allocation models for the firm. Elizabeth is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) and also sits on the committee as a Young Professional Representative.

Miranda has over 30 years experience of financial markets, as an economist, strategist, journalist, fund manager and client adviser. Miranda joined the Charity Team at abrdn in 2020. Prior to that, Miranda spent three years at UBS where she led the charities team.

During an extended career break Miranda served on a number of charity boards and investment committees, and now brings that trustee experience to her professional life as a Senior Charities Portfolio Manager.  She holds the Investment Management Certificate, and the Investment Advice Diploma.

Miranda is a graduate of University of St Andrews with an MA in Economics with International relations. She is currently a trustee of the United Westminster and Greycoat Foundation where she chairs the Finance committee.

Steve joined the company in March 2021 as Head of Private Clients in Leeds. He will also lead the Leeds office, representing the business in the North of England. Steve has over 23 years’ investment industry experience of helping clients to achieve their financial goals.

He joined Broadbridge Stockbrokers in Leeds in 1997 as an investment manager and they were acquired by Brewin Dolphin in May 2000. He spent the next 20 years there and as a Senior Investment Manager looked after a £300m client bank of multi asset portfolios for high net worth clients, trusts, corporates and charities, working closely with IFAs and professional advisers. He also sat on their Investment Risk Committee and the CISI Investment Risk & Taxation Exam Panel. Steve graduated with a degree in law from the University of Lancaster in 1997, and is a Chartered Wealth Manager (FCSI).

Shona joined as Head of Business Management and Strategy in 2016 responsible for business planning and budgeting, governance, management information and coordinating strategy.  In 2022, she became Head of Business Planning and Execution.  Previously Shona worked with Lloyds Banking Group for 17 years in a variety of roles including strategic projects and relationship management and latterly was a Senior Area Manager in the Mid Markets business, Commercial Banking.  

Shona holds an honours degree in Mathematics and Finance from Heriot Watt University, is a qualified Chartered Banker, is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland and holds the Investment Management Certificate.

David is an associate member of the UK Society of Investment Professionals, and a member of the CFA Institute.

Ben Turner has been specialising in Charity finance and investment for 10 years. Prior to joining the company, Ben held senior charity and sustainable investment roles at Barclays Private Bank and UBS. His broad experience within the sector has included financing, sustainable investing, investment management and allocating to private markets for grant makers, educational, faith-based and operating charities.
Ben is a Law and Economics graduate of the University of Leicester, a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and working towards his Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst qualification.
Outside of work, Ben volunteers as a mentor with a homeless charity, is a keen sportsman and has lived in Holland, Oman and Nigeria.

Caroline is the Chief Investment Officer and joint Managing Director for Discretionary, abrdn, having joined following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013. She is a member of the abrdn Capital Limited board.

Caroline leads our dedicated investment management team and is responsible for the performance of all of our client portfolios.

Caroline joined Newton in 1998 beginning her career as a private client portfolio manager, becoming the lead manager of flagship private client funds and managing large family groups with complex investment needs.  Latterly she was a Board member of Newton Investment Management and Head of the Private Client team. She joined Newton from Ernst & Young where she trained as a Chartered Accountant.

Caroline has over 22 years of investment experience, is a CFA charter holder, a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and has gained the ASIP designation. In addition, she holds an honours degree in Economics from Emmanuel College, Cambridge.

    Dexter joined abrdn in 2016. As a Charities Portfolio Manager, he is responsible for investing portfolios for charities, philanthropic donors and families. Dexter specialises in ethical investing, and leads the team on environmentally focussed investment solutions. He has developed techniques for reporting and measuring the carbon footprint of investment portfolios, bringing together the extensive internal and external resources available.

Prior to this Kevin worked at Lloyds Private Banking for over 27 years during which time he undertook a number of roles including financial planning, portfolio management before eventually moving into the High Net Worth offer for clients with over £2m of investible assets. He is a Fellow of both the CISI and Personal Financial Society. Originally born in Plymouth he moved to Bristol in 1990.

    Prior to his current position and earlier Operations Director role with APWM, he held senior positions with lnsinger de Beaufort International Limited  (formerly Matheson Investment International Limited) and with Citibank in Jersey and Dublin.

    Tim is a non-executive director of the Aberdeen Standard Capital Offshore Strategy Fund (ASCOSF ).

    Before joining the abrdn Group (formerly Standard Life Aberdeen) at Lloyds David was Director of the Bank's ultra high net worth private client business, and a member of the Executive Management committee of Lloyds Private Banking for over five years. Throughout his career David has built a broad range of experience in finance and investment related roles, and specifically held business leadership roles within private banking and discretionary fund management for the last 23 years.

    Over this time he has led investment and relationship teams serving high net worth clients, always with the aim of ensuring a clear focus on the needs of the client remains uppermost.

    He holds the ACIB (Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers) qualification, and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, and holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Managerial and Administrative Studies from Aston University.

Prior to joining the business in 2013, Laurence was with Barclays Wealth & Investment Management where he worked across investment teams in London and Singapore.

    A graduate of Durham University, Laurence is a CFA Charterholder and holds both the Investment Management Certificate and the Certificate in ESG Investing. He is an active member and ambassador of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of the UK. In 2020, Laurence was also named in the Private Asset Management Awards, Top 40 Under 40.

    Outside of his professional responsibilities, Laurence is a Trustee and Chair of the Investment Committee for a grant-making charity.

After graduating with a First in Law from the University of Edinburgh and qualifying as a lawyer, Julie specialised in trusts and private client work, including philanthropy and the creation and management of charities. As the Charity Governance Specialist at abrdn, Julie is a sounding board for our charity clients on various governance and policy matters. In particular, Julie provides practical help to charity clients relating to their investment policy statement and the way charities reflect their purposes in their investment policy. She has particular expertise in this area, having co-authored the Scottish Charity Regulator’s investment guidance in 2018.

    Aside from her role at abrdn, Julie’s cross-sector activities extend to the public and academic spheres. In 2019, she was asked by the Scottish Government to Chair the Review of Governance of NHS Endowment Funds. Julie is also a board member of SEPA, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, and is a Visiting Professor in Governance and Innovation at Edinburgh Napier University.

    Andrew manages investment portfolios for private clients, trustees, family offices and charities. Andrew brings over 30 years of investment knowledge and experience to our international client base, including being a member of various boards and investment committees of regulated organisations.

    Prior to his current position and earlier Investment Manager role with APWM, he was previously employed at Asset Risk Consultants, Cenkos (CI), Kleinwort Benson and Merrill Lynch Asset Management.

    Andrew is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and a Chartered Wealth Manager. He is a holder of the Securities & Investment - Private Client Investment Advice & Management Certificate (PCIAM), the Securities & Investment - Investment Advice Diploma (IAD) and the Investment Management Certificate (IMC).

    Outside of work, Andrew is a committee member for Jersey Cancer Relief, a local charity offering financial assistance to local people affected by cancer. He has three teenage children, is a keen runner and enjoys travelling and sporting challenges such as climbing Kilimanjaro and the 3 Peaks Challenge.

    Cameron joined abrdn in 2022, having spent the previous 6 years at another global investment manager. Cameron manages investment portfolios for charities, trusts and private clients. An Investment and Finance master’s graduate of Strathclyde Business School, Cameron also holds the Investment Management Certificate and the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing.

    Cameron maintains a particular interest in youth development, sitting on the finance committee of Youth Scotland and through his work as an investment mentor for the Future Asset initiative.

    Elizabeth Pindar joined the company in 2020 from local investment management firm Redmayne Bentley based in Leeds. Elizabeth graduated with an honours degree in Economics from the University of Newcastle which naturally led to a career in financial services. At Redmayne Bentley her time was spent working with the team managing client portfolios, including portfolio construction, dealing and suitability. She also sat on various investment committees feeding into strategic asset allocation models for the firm. Elizabeth is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) and also sits on the committee as a Young Professional Representative.

    Miranda has over 30 years experience of financial markets, as an economist, strategist, journalist, fund manager and client adviser. Miranda joined the Charity Team at abrdn in 2020. Prior to that, Miranda spent three years at UBS where she led the charities team.

    During an extended career break Miranda served on a number of charity boards and investment committees, and now brings that trustee experience to her professional life as a Senior Charities Portfolio Manager.  She holds the Investment Management Certificate, and the Investment Advice Diploma.

    Miranda is a graduate of University of St Andrews with an MA in Economics with International relations. She is currently a trustee of the United Westminster and Greycoat Foundation where she chairs the Finance committee.

    Steve joined the company in March 2021 as Head of Private Clients in Leeds. He will also lead the Leeds office, representing the business in the North of England. Steve has over 23 years’ investment industry experience of helping clients to achieve their financial goals.

    He joined Broadbridge Stockbrokers in Leeds in 1997 as an investment manager and they were acquired by Brewin Dolphin in May 2000. He spent the next 20 years there and as a Senior Investment Manager looked after a £300m client bank of multi asset portfolios for high net worth clients, trusts, corporates and charities, working closely with IFAs and professional advisers. He also sat on their Investment Risk Committee and the CISI Investment Risk & Taxation Exam Panel. Steve graduated with a degree in law from the University of Lancaster in 1997, and is a Chartered Wealth Manager (FCSI).

    Ben is a Law and Economics graduate of the University of Leicester, a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and working towards his Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst qualification.

    Caroline is the Chief Investment Officer and joint Managing Director for Discretionary, abrdn, having joined following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013. She is a member of the abrdn Capital Limited board.

    Caroline leads our dedicated investment management team and is responsible for the performance of all of our client portfolios.

    Caroline joined Newton in 1998 beginning her career as a private client portfolio manager, becoming the lead manager of flagship private client funds and managing large family groups with complex investment needs.  Latterly she was a Board member of Newton Investment Management and Head of the Private Client team. She joined Newton from Ernst & Young where she trained as a Chartered Accountant.

    Caroline has over 22 years of investment experience, is a CFA charter holder, a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and has gained the ASIP designation. In addition, she holds an honours degree in Economics from Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
