abrdn leases site at Greenport Venlo business park to Rhenus Road

12 September 2023

Venlo - Asset manager abrdn has signed a sustainable redevelopment agreement with logistics specialist Rhenus Road on behalf of one of its funds, EPGF (Aberdeen Standard European Property Growth Fund LP). Before the company settles in the property, located at Tasmanweg 2 in Greenport Venlo, the building will be redeveloped into a BREEAM Excellent and Well Silver building as per request.

The redevelopment will start immediately after the summer and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of next year. By then, the 33,000-square-metre building will be divided into 16,000m2 warehouse, 12,000 square metres of transhipment, 1,400m2 office, 3,300m2 mezzanine space, and parking spaces for trucks and cars with electric-charging facilities.

"Thanks to the redevelopment to a BREEAM Excellent and Well Silver level, Rhenus Road is moving into a highly sustainable distribution centre", says Dominique Schillings, Head of Asset Management Netherlands at abrdn. "Sustainability takes centre-stage at abrdn, both in developing real estate and in maintaining relationships. The contract we signed with Rhenus Road for this property has a 20 year-term."

Rhenus is happy with the Venlo location. "This location next to the motorway forms an important link in our international groupage 2.0 network", says Michael van Ooijen, Regional Manager at Rhenus. "From Venlo, we can easily drive to other countries or trans-shipment centres in Europe. We will have 12,000 m2 at our disposal for trans-shipment."

Van Ooijen adds: "Additionally, we can offer our customers transport-related storage of 16,000 m2 in Venlo. Moreover, we have all the space here to shape and give substance to the cooperation with other Rhenus divisions and to grow along with our customers. After the redevelopment, the premises will meet our specific needs and requirements."

abrdn was supported commercially in this transaction by JLL and M2 Real Estate. Rhenus Road was assisted in this transaction by VSR Vastgoed Advies. Savills advised abrdn in the technical process, Volantess advised Rhenus Road in the technical process, and DLA Piper Nederland assisted abrdn during the legal process.
