abrdn announces new Powerful Partnership with The Alan Turing Institute
26 July 2023Today we are launching a new partnership with the UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence, The Alan Turing Institute. The two-year collaboration will see funding from the abrdn Charitable Foundation (aCF) enable a global research programme to collect and monitor biodiversity data, together with the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH).
Stark warnings continue to alert us of the continued biodiversity crisis. There are gaps in our understanding about biodiversity across the globe, particularly around where species occur, how they are changing and what is causing declines and extinctions.
This programme will look specifically at insects, bird and bats which are critical to ecosystems around the world. The information gained from the project has the potential to be used by governments, businesses and communities by generating new, robust data for biodiversity assessments.
Our Global Head of Corporate Sustainability, Gemma Jones, said: “We are delighted to confirm our partnership with The Alan Turing Institute. The interlinked biodiversity and climate crises continue to pose unprecedented challenges for society and require understanding, collaboration and collective change at pace.
“Through the planet lens of our charitable partnership strategy we seek to support innovative projects that hope to increase our collective understanding of, and potential solutions to those problems. We are hugely excited about the programme of work The Alan Turing Institute and UKCEH will undertake and look forward to working with them and learning from their findings.”
